Welcome to incidental naturalist; a blog about a lifelong love of wildlife.
Some of my bucket-list wildlife experiences occurred through research, planning and travel, but nature is all around us. We should not overlook opportunities for incidental encounters in our daily life. Many of the posts in this blog come from holidays, work trips or weekend walks around local parks and gardens.
In sharing my wildlife adventures I hope that you will find your own inspiration to connect with nature.
I’m far from a professional naturalist and rarely have the time to capture the golden hue of the early morning sunlight in my photography. I enjoy the moment and share what I can.
Enjoy, comment and share. Feedback and questions are always welcome.

Hi David, We share a similar interest in urban wildlife species. Isn’t it intriguing finding the ‘niche’ ecosystems which thrive within a city? I shall enjoy reading of your experiences. Liz.

Thanks Liz! Yes, it is amazing what thrives around us whilst, for the most part, going unnoticed. I’ll certainly follow your blog with interest.

Hi David,
Thanks for following and reading my blog. I love what you’ve written about your experiences with nature being found in many places. It’s what I have found in my own life and I try to encourage others to enjoy the natural world wherever that may be. A beautiful blog by the way! I look forward to delving further into it. Best wishes.

Hey thanks for following my blog! I didn’t have time to look at any of your posts yesterday, but I was just looking at some a few minutes ago, and I’m definitely gonna follow you! Great work! I just scheduled a post for tomorrow thanking you for helping me reach my goal of 25 followers. I also put a link to here in my post. Hopefully it will get you some more likes and follows. If you would ever like me to guest write on your blog about something or would like any tips on blogging, feel free to ask me. I’ve been doing this for almost half a year, so I’ve learned a few tips and tricks.
Also, I just had a few questions. First, how long have you been doing this blog and how many followers do you currently have? Second, I saw you were featured on freshly pressed. Did WordPress notify you when you were put there? And how did you get that “Featured on freshly pressed” sticker thing?

Hi Evan, thanks for the comment and for the link share. I will take a look at more of your work when I have a little more time. I have been blogging for about 4 months, and after a slow start, I now get quite a lot of engagement. I have just under 2k followers at the moment, which is great as the aim here is to promote awareness of the nature around us. WP did notify me when I was freshly pressed and the sticker automatically appears in your widgets within 24 hours of being featured.

wow. Nice! How did you get so many followers so quickly? I’ve been going for 6 months almost, and I only have 25 followers…
I think I scheduled I scheduled the post with your link to publish tomorrow.

Don’t worry about followers, Evan. The title of your blog suggests that you have something unique, original or just interesting to say about being out in nature and how you feel when you’re there. If you focus on writing those things into each post and on being you then followers will definitely come. Use Twitter and Facebook, too. When I wrote a post about Hummingbirds in the San Fran Botanical Gardens, I told them on their FB page and they shared it. Good for them, good for me. Just keep writing.

Alright, I’ll definitely do that soon. And hmm, I haven’t thought about that. Good way to spread the news, by telling people when you write about their thing. Thanks for answering my question man! Great talking with you!

You have an awesome blog here David. It’s always nice to find a fellow nature lover. It’s also nice that your blog is beautiful and all of the contents are easily accessible! I just started a new blog to share my minimalist, nature-esque travel and my experience volunteering in Alaska with the whale biologists at Glacier Bay National Park!!
Thank you for sharing your experience with the world!

Hi David,
Thank you for finding me today…it led me right over to you.
It seems that our paths are similar – family, nature, and travel. I love how you capture the essence and beauty of that in this ‘about me’ page.
I travel 3-5 days/week for my day job (leftbrain, clinical stuff) and I make it a point to find nature no matter where I am at. It’s always nice to know that others are wandering around this big old world, too.
Nice to meet you!
Michelle
